Comedy Central Asked Amy Schumer to Take Over THE DAILY SHOW

“From Comedy Central’s World News Headquarters in New York, this is The Daily Show with Amy Schumer!”

It could have happened. Amy Schumer has confirmed that Comedy Central asked her to take over The Daily Show following the departure of longtime host, Jon Stewart.

“I was so honored to be asked and considered,” said Schumer. “With Comedy Central, I project so much ‘You’re my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, ‘We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you!’”

Schumer has had her own Comedy Central program, Inside Amy Schumer since 2013, and she is one of the network’s breakout stars. It could have been a great match, but Schumer felt otherwise when she gave it some thought.

“And then I thought, ‘Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years,’ related Schumer. “But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years — I love not knowing. And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.’”

Inside Amy Schumer has already been renewed for a fourth season, and later this summer, Schumer is starring in the feature film Trainwreck, which she also wrote. So, she probably made the right call for her career.

A recent report indicated that Amy Poehler and Chris Rock were also asked to take over The Daily Show, but both turned it down. Trevor Noah will take over The Daily Show on September 28.
