Com Truise’s SILICON TARE EP is a Galactic Adventure (Premiere)

Seth Haley, better known by his moniker Com Truise, is the intergalactic stepbrother that ‘80s electronica never knew it had. The myriad synths of the Com Truise cosmos aren’t merely evocative of ‘80s hardware and ‘80s moods, though. Like many of his Ghostly International labelmates, Haley contemporizes the sounds he borrows; nearly each tone has a distinct decay that makes it feel slightly askew, like the warped clarity of a David Lynch TM session. The style, something Haley has named “mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk,” is unique enough that it might as well just be called Com Truise.

Today Nerdist is premiering the latest Com Truise EP, Silicon Tare. The five-song album, as the name suggests, sounds of metalloids and circuit boards and empty spaceships. Synths are everything in Haley’s music; they’re responsible for both the caustic bass-lines and the sonic twinkles that flit above them. Having Silicon Tare in your ears is like traveling through a star system, dancing and watching the swathes of sky morph from star to star. It’s big and astral and interesting, but it’s not inherently supposed to conjure any certain kind of feeling.

“The music isn’t supposed to feel happy or sad, it’s supposed to feel like something’s changing,” Haley told us. “And I want them to be open to what’s next, because the story is going to continue.”

Silicon Tare, the latest continuation in the cosmic narrative that is Com Truise, will be available for purchase on April 1 via Ghostly. Until then, hit that big orange play button, close your eyes, and explore the stars.

You can order Silicon Tare from The Ghostly Store.
