Clip of DOCTOR WHO “Dark Water” Makes Missy Even More Mysterious

We’re only a few hours away from the first part of the Doctor Who Series 8 finale, “Dark Water,” written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, and I don’t know about you but I’m sitting on a powder keg of anticipation the likes of which only sung about in Carly Simon songs. What we know so far is that the Cybermen are back and something is making Clara Oswald say she doesn’t exist. Maybe she doesn’t, maybe she’s been hypnotized or enchanted somehow; it’s all a bit of a mystery.

What’s even more of a mystery is the character of Missy (Michelle Gomez) who has popped up here and there throughout the 10 episodes to have aired thus far and is apparently somehow involved in the afterlife, seeing as she or her minion Seb (Chris Addison) keep talking to people we’ve seen die in the episode. She also has some connection to the Doctor, even calling him her boyfriend. To quote Lewis Carroll, “Curiouser and curiouser.”

This clip for the episode does nothing to answer any queries (although why would it, honestly) as it shows the Cybermen marching on St. Paul’s Cathedral, the way they did in 1968, and the Doctor yelling for people to run away, but no one does. Nobody’s afraid of the Cybermen, and Missy tells the Doctor the main problem with the human race is the dead outnumber the living. That’s a bit ominous, don’t you think?

Honestly, this is a baffler. How will this divisive season of Doctor Who end? (Nothing about Peter Capaldi or Jenna Coleman have been divisive to me, by the way; they’re both superb.) I guess we’ll find out later! And be sure to come back to Nerdist.com after you watch the episode to read my review! We’ll get through it all together, ducks.

  1. Most daring season of Who since the 2005 reboot – great work from Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat. They succeeded in bringing to screens a classic Who vive that I remember from the Tom Baker, Terry Nation, Douglas Adams years
