Cliches Assemble With ’90s Style AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer

My, how movies have changed in the past 20 years. Next month the world will be treated to the return of Marvel’s cinematic superhero team The Avengers and everything points to the film being as much of a powerhouse as its predecessor. These types of films would be nothing but a dream to audiences and filmmakers back in the mid ’90s. At a time when Bruce Willis was the king of action, Toy Story opened the door to a whole new world of animated films, and a movie trailer without the voice of Don LaFontaine in it was rare the superhero scene was rather lax in cinema and the effects were still mostly done through practical stunt work. Needless to say, it was an amazing time to be alive. Sadly, not everyone could be alive in 1995, but they don’t have to worry, because Vulture has taken the liberty to give the trailer for Avengers: Age Of Ultron a mid-90s makeover.

The trailer hits all the points needed to really capture the look and feel of our favorite mid-90s action films. The grainy VHS look including tracking issues, a card font in the vein of Die Hard With A Vengeance or True Lies, and a very ’90s voice over. I am not certain if Vulture used a very accurate impersonator for the LaFontaine voice over, or pieced together parts of his existing work. Either way, it makes the whole thing just that much more authentic. The song used is “Bishop’s Countdown” from Aliens and even though it is from an ’80s movie instead of ’90s, the song still carries the kind of sound & drive that stayed with action films well into 1995.

This video does bring to mind a question: who would actually play The Avengers in a mid-90s Vintage Casting? Who do you think it would be? Let us know in the comments below or chat me up on Twitter, @MattDelhauer.
