Class Is In Session: The Nerdist School Opens With a 12-Hour Comedy Show!

Ladies and Gentlemen currently browsing our humble little nerd website, please take a seat for an announcement we are all quite proud of. At the bottom of the site we joyfully state that Nerdist was started by Chris Hardwick (or Papa Bear, as some of us call him without express verbal or written permission) and has grown into a many headed beast. This month Nerdist is celebrating the growth of yet another head on our nerdy Hydra.

An exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter announced to the world that this month marks the launch of The Nerdist School, a comedy school in the same vein as The Groundlings School and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. The Nerdist School will be offering classes in the arts of improv comedy, sketch comedy writing, and storytelling. Those who wish to sign up for classes will be taught by masters of the craft such as Derek Miller (Drunk History), Rebekka Johnson (Paul F. Tompkin’s Speakeasy), and Monika Smith (Comedy Bang! Bang!). Miller has been quoted on the topic saying, “I’ve taught improv for over a decade, and I have never been as inspired or liberated as with what we have built at Nerdist School… We created an environment to focus on individual voices and tailor each class to the timbre of its students’ talent.”

The school is native to Los Angeles and at the moment will be exclusively located at The Nerdist School, 7518 W. Sunset Blvd.. Papa Be… Mr. Hardwick has also spoken about the opening of the school, saying, “The Nerdist Showroom has spent the last several years cultivating a wonderful community of performers and comedy fans to become one of the top venues in Los Angeles. The goal of the school will be to broaden that community to give young comedy minds the tools they need to leap from audience to stage!”

To celebrate this occasion, Nerdist will be hosting a 12-hour comedy event at The Nerdist School, officially called The All-Day Assembly, this Saturday (March 28th, 2015) from noon until midnight. Afterward, there will be a DJ dance party for all performers and guests from midnight until 4am. Don’t worry, there will also be several food trucks to replenish all the calories you’ll burn by laughing your socks off. “This 12-hour improv marathon is many kinds of exciting, mixing some of the all-time greats with amazing new talents taking their first steps into a long journey of improv,” says Nerdist School workshop leader Ptolemy Slocum (Veep).

Obviously we are quite excited about this, but what about you? Do you plan on heading to the Assembly, or even signing up for classes? Leave a comment below, and if you are interested in more info, head over to the official page for The Nerdist School.
