Chris Hemsworth Circling Potential ALLAN QUARTERMAIN Film

Chris Hemsworth is already headlining two film franchises as Thor and The Huntsman, but there may be a third franchise in his future. Hemsworth is reportedly close to signing on for an Allan Quartermain movie as part of a package deal that may soon land at a major studio.

Allan Quartermain was an adventurer created by author H. Rider Haggard, who first appeared in 1885 as the main character of King Solomon’s Mines. Quartermain went on to star in 13 additional books and several short stories by Haggard before slipping into public domain. Haggard chronicled Quartermain’s life as a young man and followed his story into Quartermain’s late ‘60s. Because of Quartermain’s reputation as a hunter and an explorer, he was often recruited for perilous journeys and dangerous quests. Unsurprisingly, Quartermain was one of the inspirations for Indiana Jones.

The new take on Allan Quartermain was written by Barnett Brettler, but the details of the story are currently under wraps. Allan Quartermain’s adventures have been depicted several times in film and television — Stewart Granger, Richard Chamberlain, John Colicos, Sean Connery, Cedric Hardwicke, and Patrick Swayze have all portrayed Allan Quartermain. In fact, Connery’s turn as Quartermain in the infamous box office bomb League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ended up being the final onscreen role that Connery accepted before his retirement.

Hemsworth’s career is currently peaking with starring turns in the upcoming films In the Heart of the Sea, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and the remake of Ghostbusters. There are at least two more Marvel Studios movies left on Hemsworth’s contract, which means that he’ll also be back for Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.
