Chloe Bennet Wishes the MCU Would Acknowledge Marvel TV

There’s a Civil War going on at Marvel, and we’re not talking about Team Cap and Team Iron Man! While Marvel’s television shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, and Jessica Jones have acknowledged the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s been a pretty one-way relationship between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV. That fact has not gone unnoticed by the stars of Marvel’s television series.

Via Bleeding Cool, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet addressed the divide between Marvel’s film and television divisions while making an appearance at Wizard World Des Moines Comic Con. When asked why the Avengers haven’t been called in on the Hive crisis, Bennet replied that she didn’t know. “People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care!”

Damn it, she’s right! Do you realize that we’re more likely to see Spider-Man in another Marvel movie before we see Daredevil or the Punisher back on the big screen? Why can’t the two divisions of Marvel play nice and share some toys? It may have something to do with Marvel Studios spinning off from Marvel Entertainment last year, which left Kevin Feige reporting directly to Disney’s Alan Horn instead of Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter. But even before that happened, Avengers: Age of Ultron passed up on a natural moment for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters to make a cameo during the Sokovia incident.

Only Hayley Atwell‘s Agent Peggy Carter seemed to be able to move between Marvel’s films and TV shows after starring in her own series, although Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Jaimie Alexander have all made guest appearances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. prior to the current season. We think what fans really want to see is a sign that the television stories matter in the greater scheme of things within the MCU. We’ve been sold on the notion that “it’s all connected,” but is it really?

What is it going to take to bring the two sides together? Feige has mentioned the difficulty of getting the film and TV schedules lined up to free up actors and actresses from the shows to make an appearance in the movies. But at this point, wouldn’t the right storyline eventually get top-notch talent involved?

All of which is not to say that future interaction between Marvel’s films and TV shows is impossible. Now that Adrianne Palicki won’t be headlining Marvel’s Most Wanted, wouldn’t it be cool to see her go full Mockingbird in a Marvel movie? Conversely, Emily VanCamp didn’t really get a lot to do in her two Captain America appearances. An Agent 13 TV series with VanCamp’s Sharon Carter could be a lot of fun. We’d also love to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil mentor Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in one of Spidey’s movies. Alternately, we’re overdue for a Black Widow and Daredevil meeting considering their long history together in Marvel’s comic book universe.
