Chip n’ Dale to Hit the Big Screen

Award-winning commercial director Robert Rugan has successfully pitched a live action version of the former TV hit Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers to Disney for the big screen. Mandeville Films/TV (The Muppets, 2011) is set to produce the feature.

The Chip n’ Dale concept originally appeared in a 1943 cartoon starring Pluto. The duo continued to appear in various Disney platforms from that point forward until 1989, when they finally received their own show on the Disney Channel and then in broadcast syndication.

For those of you who don’t remember, Chip and Dale are two chipmunks who start a detective agency called “Rescue Rangers”. (Stay with me…) The twosome prided themselves on solving crimes too small for standard law enforcement agencies. Accompanying them on their mystery missions were the dreamy “Gadget” and the portly “Monterey Jack.”  The recurring nemeses of these mini-heroes included a Corleone-esque tabby cat named Fat Cat, a mad scientist named Norton Nimnul, and presumably d-Con rodent poison pellets.

I suspect one cha-cha-cha-challege will be casting Zipper, the house fly who also accompanied the Rescue Rangers on their missions.

The project will be a live action/CG hybrid, a format which has proven successful with such films as Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007), The Smurfs (2011) and that movie about the dinosaurs.

Tell us what other childhood cartoons you think deserve a big-screen live-action version. Rocko’s Modern Life? David the Gnome? Or perhaps a feature staring the famous Nick Jr. MC “Face“?

DUDE!! SWEET!!! I was always hoping they would do something like this. Personally I hoped for a Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers / The Rescuers crossover where you find out that Gadget was the daughter of Bernard and Bianca and Chip N’ Dale were always striving to become agents in the The Rescue Aid Society.
Now I live action film is coming out…AWESOME!!!
