With principal photography completed on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’re now experiencing the calm before the first storm of marketing before the enormously anticipated film arrives. So now’s the perfect time for fans everywhere to get creative and share their own ideas for trailers, posters, and other advertising materials — before Star Wars fever engulfs the land once more. One such trailer has just arrived online from an entity known only as The Epsilon. And even the most jaded of Star Wars fans will find it difficult to resist a sharp pang of nostalgia as they hear its opening words from… Ah, but why spoil things. You can watch it yourself below!
I love the fact that this trailer begins by sampling not the Yoda of the prequels, but the Yoda of the original trilogy (specifically The Empire Strikes Back), the films that The Force Awakens are a direct continuation of, and the films that we’re all hoping the new J.J. Abrams directed installment most emulates. Then of course, there’s the craggy but still smiling faces of Harrison Ford (apparently recovered from his unfortunate on-set accident) and Mark Hamill, as well as that of fresh-faced newcomer Daisy Ridley, whose role in the film has not yet been officially identified but whom we all hope will be the daughter of Han and Leia and the first new female Jedi since the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. We’ll know for sure when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens everywhere on December 18, 2015.
What do you guys think? Is this a fan trailer worthy of the Force or have you seen better? Let us know in the comments below, and make sure you check out today’s episode of Nerdist News for even more Star Wars: The Force Awakens theories!
