Check out the Latest Trailer for Michael Mann’s New Hacker Film, BLACKHAT

In the last few months, we’ve learned a lot about the danger of hackers and just what they’re capable of. From the release of hundreds of illegally obtained celebrity photos, to the massive, coordinated attack on Sony Pictures, it seems that if someone or a group of “blackhat” hackers are motivated enough, they can pull off some overwhelmingly crippling attacks, which is what makes the latest film by Michael Mann, Blackhat, all too relevant.

Starring Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, the new film just released its latest trailer. Check it out:

The new action-thriller follows a temporarily pardoned convict (Hemsworth) as he helps an international task force hunt down cyber-crime syndicate. We are already anticipating this to be one of our favorite action films of the new year.

There is no way Michael Mann could have known his film would coincide with two of the biggest cyber attacks of recent memory. But the new feature is a clear indication of where many creative minds think our latest frontier of drama and suspense exists. Though the prospect may be frightening, it’s cool that we’re getting a chance to approach the idea of cyber security through a medium that still has the potential to change things. If even one person is convinced by the film to not keep all their passwords in a folder titled “passwords,” it will have succeeded.

Blackhat hits theaters January 16, 2015.
