Celebrities “Masquerade” as Leonardo DiCaprio After Oscar Win

On the night where everybody wanted to be Leonardo DiCaprio, everybody was.

Following Leo’s first and long-awaited Oscar win, Vanity Fair took to the red carpet to “masquerade” in his likeness. They used MSQRD—a Snapchat-esque app that allows people to swap faces with celebrities—to capture other celebrities as they donned a Leo mask. Many of them then spoke as if they were the now-Oscar-winning star of The Revenant.

“Finally something has gone right for me. I’ve won an Oscar,” said BJ Novak, wryly suggesting that DiCaprio hadn’t exactly lived a rough life before the win. The storyline of the movie star’s Oscar losing streak (he’d been denied the Best Actor award three previous times, for The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and The Wolf of Wall Street) probably hasn’t garnered much sympathy—considering the actual hardships that exist in people’s lives. Still, who doesn’t feel just a little better now that we live in a world in which Leonardo DiCaprio has won an Oscar.

“Oh it’s Leonardo DiCaprio,” said James Corden in Leo mask. “So this is me as Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s not too different is it? Get off of me you big bear!”

Mindy Kaling, Patrick Stewart, Vince Vaughn, Michael Strahan, Judd Apatow, and Conan O’Brien all also tried on Leo’s face – with varying levels of amusement. Larry David wasn’t into it all, and Leo’s mom already knew all about the app. “Oh I know this—he’s done that for me,” she told the Vanity Fair rep, obviously over it.

You, too, can try on Leo’s face with the MSQRD app in hand. Check out the video above and let us know what you’d say in your brief foray as an Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio.
