Celebrate Halloween 2015 with the Madness of Lucha VaVOOM’s MEXICAN HORROR STORY

Everyone has their own favorite way to celebrate Halloween, whether it be candy apples, corn mazes, trick ‘r treating, or a good old-fashioned marathon of monster movies. But here in Los Angeles, where we try to keep things crazy every day of the year, we have another tradition — Mexican wrestling! And no one that puts on a better lucha libre show than the folks at Lucha VaVOOM.

Far wackier and wilder than most professional wrestling, Lucha VaVOOM has several events in the LA area throughout the year. Most of them celebrate a different holiday, like Christmas or Cinco de Mayo (pictured above), and each of them overflows with comedy, burlesque dancers, and acrobatics. But, as one might expect from a troupe of colorful masked men, Lucha VaVOOM lets its freak flag fly especially high at Halloween time. This year’s event will be held on October 28th and 29th at LA’s Mayan Theatre. Hosted by former Beat the Geeks host Blaine Capatch, the theme is “Mexican Horror Story”, and it promises more than its share of evil doctors and masked maniacs. Here’s how the Lucha VaVOOM organizers describe the theatrics to us…

“Lucha VaVOOM has always been inspired by cinema; for our Halloween shows, we are heavily influenced by the classic Hammer Horror films, Dario Argento, Mario Bava etc. The performances between the matches are informed by that sexy/horror aesthetic. This show in particular also taps into stranger stuff that American Horror Story has brought to the masses (hospital fetish, etc). The wrestling takes its cues from monster films and sci-fi from the 50’s and 60’s — over-the-top drama & characters. Also, Blaine Capatch is terrifying. Terrifyingly quick witted!”
