So if it wasn’t already transparent after releasing new tracks from Bon Iver and The Shins, Zach Braff is trying to break your heart. Now NPR has just premiered the third original track from Braff’s upcoming Wish I Was Here soundtrack and it is a pillowy, forlorning ballad by Chan Marshall a/k/a Cat Power and Chris Martin of Coldplay. Listen to the titular “Wish I Was Here” now, and let us know if you think this song stacks up to the rest of the soundtrack so far.
I am into this unlikely collaboration, but I still think the new Bon Iver’s “Heavenly Father,” which the band evidently took a hiatus from their hiatus to make, is my favorite so far. Like, I am optimistic that the scene in which Bon Iver is playing will trump the “New Slang” moment of Garden State. I wonder what Vegas odds are that Natalie Portman has a cameo and makes Braff listen to “Heavenly Father” or “Wish I Was Here” on a CD player from 2004. I wonder what odds are that there are Vegas odds on such an indie thing like that? Who can say really.
