Cat Ear Headphones Are a Very Real Thing

You too can look like a cat on your next campaign. Or just look like a cat walking down the street. Seriously, cats are in, and the folks at Axent Wear understand the need to marry solid high-tech and high-performing headphones with feline sensibilities. The brilliant minds behind the very successful Indiegogo campaign last year (they raised $3m to fund their project) have paired with Brookstone to produce, package, and market their light-up over ear headphones.

The headphones feature fully functional cat ear external speakers, a removable 3.5mm jack with a microphone and USB charger, comfortable over-ear cushions that mold on your head, a 40 mm driver with 20Hz to 20KHz frequencey response, and bright LED lighting accents.

Brookstone is already selling them for $149 on their website, but it looks like they are only just going to ship starting next week so there aren’t any reviews out there for us to judge yet. What we do know though is that the product has gone through a number of redesigns since the original. Axent Wear founder, Wenqing Yan, visited the Brookstone factory in New Hampshire earlier this year and then told backers of the original process some of the details:

We heard everyone’s feedback on the last post and we completely agree with the changes that need to be made, such as color, brighter lights, and a less bulky frame. Please understand that the prototypes are not what the final product will look like, and we will be actively improving each prototype we make. In this second version of the prototype, we’ve already improved many details, such as the colors and added the detachable gaming boom mic. With each iteration, it will look better and better!

It sounds like both Axent Wear and Brookstone are taking customer/backer feedback very seriously which is a great sign. I can’t wait to see these headphones popping up around New York City in the coming months. Something tells me they are going to be super popular with the tech crowd.
