CARS 3 Seems Like the ROCKY 3 of Pixar Movies in Latest Trailer

I’ll admit that I haven’t been following the Cars franchise of films all that closely, but what I remember of the first movie is that it’s about a fast-talking, city-slicking racing superstar who’s sidelined in an old Midwestern town full of average Sedans and learns that there are more important things in life than winning. Cars 3, so far, does not appear to be about that — and finally, the new trailer offers us a better glimpse into what Disney and Pixar’s latest collaboration will actually be like when it hits theaters next month. Check it out below:

Basically, it seems like flashy new wundercar Jackson Storm is going to be the Clubber Lang to established hero Lightning McQueen’s Rocky, and the movie will focus on Lightning’s training as he struggles to live up to his own legacy. Look, they even train on the beach and everything! Plus there’s maybe some of Rocky 4’s anxiety about using modern technology to train for sporting competitions thrown in there for good measure. What is the car equivalent of chopping down wood in the Russian arctic as a workout? Driving up a mountain, maybe?

Cars 3 hits theaters on June 16, and stars Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer (as Jackson Storm, who else), Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington, Bonnie Hunt, and Character Actress Margo Martindale, which is as incredible a cast as I’ve ever seen in a movie about racing that did not exist in the Fast and Furious franchise. Now that you know it’s about more than just a horribly violent car crash, are you down to check the movie out? Let us know in the comments below!
