Carly Rae Jepsen Recorded her Song in the Gibberish SIMS Language

Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2015 album Emotion has been something of a surprise hit: commercially, it hasn’t fared as well as 2012’s Kiss (which of course featured “Call Me Maybe”), but it’s been praised critically by publications both pop and indie. Remember how Uncle Jesse’s cover of The Beach Boys’ “Forever” was a big hit in Japan in Full House? It seems like Emotion is experiencing similar success, except this time, it’s taking off in the universe of The Sims.

Yes, the video game where everybody speaks gibberish. Oh, excuse us, their language is actually called Simlish, and the Simlish speakers now have a relatable dose of Carly Rae Jepsen, because the singer recorded a Simlish version of “Run Away With Me” for the Sims 4: Get Together expansion pack. Jepsen has definitely mastered Simlish, as her vocal performance doesn’t suffer trying to navigate the unfamiliar foreign lyrics.

About those lyrics: they’re wonderful. There’s no full transcription yet (get on it, Internet), but one YouTube commenter transcribed the opening lyrics, “F’BUKIN GAH, BOOKIE MA MOO, BOOKIE MA FOOBY FOOBY AVA CHA ZAR, SIKALA FAY BEENA SHA SHOOBY SHOOBY,” which is about as accurate as I imagine anybody will interpret them. Other commenters have noted that the chorus seems to include a nod to the one-viral “Chocolate Rain” singer Tay Zonday.

In case that wasn’t enough, Zedd also recorded a Simlish version of “Beautiful Now” for the soundtrack, in case fist-pumping EDM is more your speed. Let’s just hope Drake doesn’t do a new version of “Hotline Bling”, because we don’t think our news feeds could handle it.
