The Internet’s second record, Ego Death, is easily one of the best albums of 2015. Once a strange R&B offshoot of the Odd Future collective, the LA-based group helmed by Syd Bennett is currently doing some of the most vibrant work in the vast ecosystem of genres (jazz, soul, hip-hop, R&B) that they inhabit. Suffice to say that I am ecstatic about their contribution to our running mix series, Car Tunes and Cartoons.

With Syd’s candid songwriting that is sometimes cocky, sometimes plaintive, and the swaddling embrace of steamy, textured instrumentation, Ego Death lives and breathes in a coolly effortless way. The band has been touring the hell out of the record for a few months—even stopping to do a Tiny Desk concert along the way—and are wrapping up the first leg of their North American tour by playing a November 14 set at Tyler, The Creator’s annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival, which showcases hip-hop/R&B up-and-comers and veterans (Snoop Dogg is headlining this year).

To prep for their performance, the band have compiled a 10-track playlist full of contemporary hip-hop, soul, classic bossa nova, and more.
