CAPTAIN PHASMA Comic Miniseries Announced at STAR WARS Celebration

CAPTAIN PHASMA Comic Miniseries Announced at STAR WARS Celebration

To some fans, Captain Phasma is the Boba Fett of the new Star Wars movie trilogy — she looks impossibly cool in her full-body armor, but she has maybe ten minutes of screen time and doesn’t really do all that much. Now, however, she’s finally getting her moment in the spotlight.

As announced at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this weekend, Phasma will be the star of a new comic miniseries meant to bridge the gap between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, which hits theaters in December. Written by Kelly Thompson (Jem And The Holograms, A-Force vol 2) with artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Obi-Wan and Anakin, The Guardians Of The Galaxy), the four-issue comic will launch in September and continue. When last we saw Phasma, she was being led by Finn and Han Solo to a trash compactor-y demise, which would probably lead many moviegoers to suspect that she did not make it off-world before the Starkiller base exploded. However, if you’ve been paying attention to Star Wars gossip over the past two years, you knew she was coming back for a triumphant return; almost right after The Force Awakens opened, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed to the LA Times that she had big plans for the female stormtrooper. And then, of course, we all saw her in the trailer for The Last Jedi yesterday, with a cool new weapon that might play a big role in the movie. Maybe we’ll see how she gets it in this comic?

“Like most, I’m a huge fan of both Gwendoline Christie and Phasma,” writer Kelly Thompson told StarWars.com for the big reveal. “Christie is magnetic and Phasma has so much fascinating untapped potential… potential which I can’t wait to help unlock for fans in our comic.”

Are you a fan of Phasma, too? Let us know what you think about this new comic series in the comments!
