What Does Captain Marvel’s Secret AVENGERS Cameo Mean For the MCU?

Next year, Brie Larson is going to headline the Captain Marvel movie and make her official debut as Carol Danvers. But what if we don’t have to wait that long to see Larson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)? There are some early indications that Larson may be appearing as soon as Avengers: Infinity War. Additionally, Samuel L. Jackson is dropping some hints about a “another” Nick Fury in Captain Marvel. Today’s Nerdist News is embracing the Power Cosmic as we break down what it means for the MCU.

Join host and advance agent of the Kree Empire, Jessica Chobot, as she goes over Jackson’s intriguing quote about Nick Fury. Jackson told The A.V. Club that “I meet Captain Marvel in more of an origin story. You’ll see Nick Fury with another guy’s face, somebody that’s got two eyes, so that’s a whole big deal. You’ll see. It’s prior to the eye injury, no eye patch.” “Another guy’s face?” Does this mean that someone else will play the younger Nick Fury? Or will Marvel CGI the hell out of Jackson’s face to make him look younger? Remember, Fury mentioned something about misplacing his trust in someone before losing his eye in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Was he talking about Carol or someone else?

As for Larson, the hints about her Avengers: Infinity War role have been building for months. Larson’s name was on a call sheet for the film and the Russo Brothers accidentally name checked Captain Marvel during an event two years ago. Last year, Joe Russo flat out said that she wasn’t in the third Avengers…and yet Larson is shooting scenes this month even though Captain Marvel isn’t officially starting production until March. That’s very suspicious, and it leads us to believe that she may be filming a small role in Infinity War.

That opens up a whole new can of worms, because Captain Marvel is set in the ’90s, and we’re not sure how she’s going to get from the past to the present without any apparent signs of aging. Maybe her half-alien DNA slows down the physical passage of time, or perhaps she’s trippin’ some time-bending wormholes out in space. Either way, we’re awaiting the official explanation about where she’s been for the last twenty or so years.
