2016 will mark the 75th anniversary of Captain America, one of Marvel’s flagship superheroes. To celebrate the occasion, ABC has revealed that Captain America will be getting his own 75th anniversary special next month.
Captain America: 75 Heroic Years will be an hour showcase of Captain America from his creation in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to the modern era of comics and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Members of Simon and Kirby’s families will be interviewed in the special, with guest appearances by comic creators Stan Lee, Joe Quesada, and Jeph Loeb.
Chris Evans will also talk about his role as Cap in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, with Hayley Atwell, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, and Chloe Bennet slated to make appearances as well.
The most intriguing part of the ABC Captain America special is that Marvel will reportedly use it to make a major announcement about Captain America’s comics. Considering the fact that there’s a new Captain America movie next year, and a new Captain America #1 is coming in time for Free Comic Book Day, the early speculation is that Marvel is going to officially reveal that Steve Rogers will be Captain America again. In the current comics, Sam Wilson (formerly the Falcon) is Captain America.

Captain America: 75 Heroic Years will premiere on Tuesday, January 19 before the second season of Marvel’s Agent Carter.
