Building a Galaxy: “Star Wars: The Blueprints”

What weighs 30 pounds, contains the schematics for the Death Star and looks great on your coffee table? If you said R2-D2, you’re about 250 pounds off the mark. We’re talking about Star Wars: The Blueprints, a complete collection of the original blueprints created for the filming of the Star Wars trilogies. This oversized tome is filled with enough schematics and plans to make a Bothan blush.

Plucked from the overflowing Lucasfilm Archives, Epic Ink’s Blueprints is a detailed look into the creation of a world from the ground up. With memories and notes from the artists, designers and engineers that built the Star Wars saga, you get an unprecedented look at how the series was made including set photos, source material that inspired some of the creations and storyboards from the productions.

The book also includes blueprints and designs for the iconic ships, droids and set pieces that are burned into our memories: detailed plans for those droids you actually ARE looking for (seriously, how did you let that old guy fool you?), schematics for Vader’s meditation chamber (for quiet Vader time) and the mother of all motley ships, the Millenium Falcon. Particularly brave Padawans may even want to try building some of the structures featured, because who wouldn’t want to build an exact replica Ewok village in their tree? (If you do this, we want pictures.)

The book is a worthy addition to any library, though its size and content do come with a price tag Watto would want to haggle. If you’re going to drop the necessary credits on this, make sure you do your due diligence and make a nice place to display it. May we recommend using the blueprints to build a Han Solo in Carbonite bookcase?

Star Wars: The Blueprints can be found via Epic Ink’s online store, with the numbered edition costing $500 and the limited autographed edition running $1000.
