Bryan Singer Announces X-MEN APOCALYPSE in 2016

As official as any tweet can be, Bryan Singer, the director of next year’s hotly-anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past has announced that 2016 will see the release of the follow-up, X-Men: Apocalypse. This information, which of course we’re jumping because it’s awesome, was delivered in the following, very brief tweet by the director:

Other than that, we have nothing. Even the guy who plays Iceman had no idea.

SlashFilm is reporting that the tentative release date is May 27th, 2016. We’ll have more information when we have it, but knowing that another X-Men is on the way months before the movie is even released is a sign of both the studio’s excitement about the franchise and the director, and their desire to keep the train a-rolling given Sony’s recent announcement of ALL THE Spider-Man MOVIES!

We’ll of course have more info for you when it develops. As far as casting for the titular villain goes, how about Idris Elba? Screw his involvement in Thor!

Agreed. Idris Elba doesn’t play Apocalypse. He cancels apocalypses.

  2. Marie says:

Apocalypse!? Oh God, these X-Men movies are KILLING ME. I love X-Men and I love Apocalypse…I just found the last two movies so disappointing (X3 much moreso then First Class, but that one wasn’t great either) that I’m having a hard time getting excited about anything else they do. But…Apocalypse!! Gah, nerd brain explosion.

  3. The Big D says:

I’m very excited for DOFP, hopefully it will take the awful taste of X3 out of my mouth. How about we bring Cyclops back and actually do his character justice, instead of making him a raging douchebag? That’s the biggest travesty of the X-Men movies.

  4. Steve says:

My hopes are that it may in the end be titled “X-Men: Age of Apocalypse” to ring back to the comic series of the same name. Also, I think it has a better ring to it. I enjoy the subtitles be the same as classic comic titles rather than 2, 3, 4, etc.

  5. Alex S. says:

If Idris Elba was cast as Apocalypse, it could potentially cause a fugue in the space/time continuum as he has already gone on record with the vow that he would cancel himself.

  6. Ruben T. says:

I hope this title refers to the character and not simply ‘The Age of Apocalypse’ with no sign of En Sabah Nur himself. If it is actually him I’d like to see Christopher Judge (Teal’c from SG-1) play him. Whenever I read dialogue in the comics from Apocalypse, I always imagine Christopher Judge’s voice.

  7. Kyle Anderson says:

Let us not forget the last time the Rock played the villain in a big action movie we got the Scorpion King.

  8. Scott B. says:

I’d be down with The Rock playing Apocalypse. He’s not a horrible actor, despite some of the films he has appeared. A big badass who thinks he’s better than everyone else? Yeah, I think he can pull that off.

  9. Atte says:

With DoFP looking this awesome, I can hardly wait for this one! Apocalypse, finaly! Maybe he will appear first in the X-Force movie, hmmm?

  10. Mike says:

Idris Elba would be great, but you know Fox is already on the phone with The Rock’s agent.
