Brian Michael Bendis Will Relaunch SUPERMAN, Get His Own Comic Line

Last year, DC Comics signed comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis after his 17-year run at Marvel. We knew that it would take something big to lure Bendis away, and it doesn’t get much bigger than Superman! Following his first DC story in Action Comics #1,000, Bendis is slated to take over both Superman titles later this year.

Via Forbes, Bendis will begin his stint on Superman with a six-issue weekly Man of Steel miniseries alongside a powerhouse lineup of artists: Ivan Reis, Evan “Doc” Shaner, Ryan Sook, Kevin Maguire, Adam Hughes, and Jason Fabok. Bendis was also quick to note that he is not rebooting the current version of Superman, but he is adding a new villain who may have ties to the destruction of Superman’s homeworld, Krypton. DC also released an early look at the interconnected covers for the first four issues of Man of Steel that revisits several key moments in Superman’s history.

Man of Steel #1 will be released on Wednesday, May 30. After that, Bendis’ Superman #1 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, July 11. Action Comics #1,001 will follow on Wednesday, July 25. According to Bendis, the main Superman book will be an adventure series, while Action Comics will focus on Clark Kent’s daily life.

But Superman is far from the only icon that Bendis will take on under his new deal. DC has announced that Bendis will write and oversee a new curated line of comics that will include established heroes and introduce new characters. Further details about those series will be released within the next few months. Additionally, Bendis’ creator-owned imprint Jinxworld will also be moving to DC, with new and returning titles as well.
