GAME OF THRONES Production Will Be Unaffected by Brexit

Sure, the winds of winter may be coming, but that doesn’t mean they’re bringing in major problems for Game of Thrones‘ production now that a Brexit may also be on the way. We’re of course talking about the recently voted-upon referendum for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union that happened on Thursday, the reverberations of which will no doubt be felt in many, many ways in the days that follow. Thankfully, it does not look as though they will be moving the Wall to Canada any time soon.

A lot of Thrones‘ insanely massive production takes place in the UK — mostly in Northern Ireland, where their stages are (meaning: if it takes place inside a building in the Known Realm, it happens there), as well as locations for The Wall, Winterfell, and a few others Westerosi locales. In most typical instances, the “where” of shoot locations can come down to tax incentives and artistic fellowships/other governmental sources of funding, hence the concerns rasied by Thursday’s events.

But HBO is here to assuage all of those fears. The network released a statement explaining that, “We do not anticipate that the result of the EU Referendum will have any material effect on HBO producing Game of Thrones.”

So while Canadians may be bummed that their chance to have Jon Snow and the army of the White Walkers turn Nunavut into The North is dead, we’re just relieved that what little Thrones will have left will be the one thing not affected by an extremely shocking situation.
