Brand New Release New Single, “I Am A Nightmare”

Who else needs a good cry like it’s 2001? Well great news: Brand New have released their first new single in a year, and it is an angst-filled ball of fire that will make you want to play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and diss your parents.

“I Am A Nightmare” sees the beloved alternative/emo band in rare form, offering the serrated, angular guitar riffs that originally launched them into the mainstream. The refrain of the chorus is the sort of self-loathing mantra that will bring you back to your first early-high school crush: “I am a nightmare and you are a miracle!” Ah yes, definitely the stuff of healthy, communicative adolescent relationships.

Brand New are releasing the new track just before they head out on the Canadian leg of their North American tour, which sees them opening for Modest Mouse in the states. If you want to fully immerse yourself in a bath of nostalgic listlessness, you can cop a 12-inch version of the new single, which features really serene artwork from Morning Breath. You can pre-order that vinyl right here.
