The Stones Roses Released “All For One,” Their First Song in Two Decades

I don’t know what’s been in the water in first half of 2016. At the same clip that we have been losing our legendary musicians, we have been getting barraged by marquee albums from our contemporary superstars. It’s been a very bittersweet, disorienting dichotomy, the one thing remaining consistent is the mass-scale celebration of music both old and new.

And today is yet another apt microcosm of that concept: immediately after Chance the Rapper released “No Problems,” his brand new cut from his highly anticipated third mixtape, the 20-years-dormant rock band The Stone Roses resurfaced after rumors of their return with a HUGE anthem. It’s not worth it to say “All For One” sees them returning to their former glory because that isn’t necessarily fair or pertinent for a band who hasn’t released any new music since their 1994 record, Second Coming (the only band that really came back fully realized from this era IMO is My Bloody Valentine). But this song sees a beloved band with an enormous cult following diving headfirst back into the pool that they abruptly climbed out of several decades ago.

Though the lyrics are a bit cheesy, the guitar riff on this thing is great as it rips right through to your autonomic nervous system. Vocalist Ian Brown sounds f–cking great though. Like the whole use-it-or-lose-it adage doesn’t apply here at all. He sounds textured and confident, and I can’t wait to hear more, because we have to believe there is more than just this single right?

Are you stoked on the new Stone Roses single? Think it’s just meh? Let us know in the comments below!
