BOB’S BURGERS Will Be a Movie Musical in Summer 2020

Coming off an Emmy win for best animated series, Bob’s Burgers will be make its way to the big screen in a full-length musical movie. Show creator Loren Bouchard and Stacey Snider, the head of Fox Film, just announced that the movie will be released summer 2020 (July 17, to be exact).

Bouchard acknowledged that there’s a lot to live up to when you fashion a TV series—even one as reliably funny and genuinely heartwarming as Bob’s Burgers—into a film. According to him (via the Hollywood Reporter), the movie must “scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show.” That’s not the only criteria it has to fulfill, though. He added, “We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with … the world of Bob’s—but most of all, it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?”

Fortunately for Bouchard and his crew, the Belchers—father Bob, his wife Linda, and their three children, Tina, Gene, and Louise—have been on countless epic adventures throughout its seven seasons. (Season eight kicked off this past Sunday.) Add to that the fact that this will be a musical, and you have something special on your hands; one of the show’s selling points is its use of songs both sung by the characters and accompanying particularly wacky scenes. (Worth seeking out: Linda’s original version of “Kill the Turkey” and the National’s somber cover.) 2020 may not be right around the corner, but whatever the movie ends up being, it should be worth the wait.
