Warning: This post contains spoilers for Black Panther.
Black Panther might not be a comedy, but it does have some absolutely hilarious moments, including not one but two fantastic bits about footwear. And while the lion’s share of credit goes to writer and director Ryan Coogler for finding the perfect balance of humor, he did have some help in the that departmentâas it turns out, Coogler turned to Donald Glover to take a pass at the some of the script’s more comical scenes.
Glover told Entertainment Tonight that Coogler was “gracious enough” to ask him and his brother Ryan Glover to look over the Black Panther script to improve the comedy bits.
“Marvel locks things down, so we had not as much time as I wouldâve wanted. We had a couple of hours to punch up some jokes and stuff like that. It was already there anyway. They had already done a great job, so it was really cool to just get our fingerprints on there a bit.”
We don’t know which lines the Glover brothers might have suggested or rewritten, but if we were in their shoes, we’d be taking credit for pretty much everything Shuri said and did… especially (speaking of shoes) the sneaker gag, possibly the biggest laugh in all of Black Panther.
What lines or bits sound like Donald Glover’s humor to you? And what were some of your favorite jokes in the movie? Throw on your sandals and head to our comments section below to let us know.
