Meet the Warriors of Wakanda in New BLACK PANTHER Video

In just over a month, Marvel will bring fans into the mysterious nation of Wakanda in Black Panther. T’Challa’s homeland was briefly glimpsed during the closing moments of Captain America: Civil War, but this will be the first time that Wakanda has been fully depicted in live-action. It’s a country that defies expectations, from its incredibly high level of technology to the fierce female warriors of the Dora Milaje. Now, a new video from Marvel is throwing the spotlight on two of the film’s primary Dora Milaje: Danai Gurira‘s Okoye and Lupita Nyong’o‘s Nakia.

The new video defines Okoye as a traditionalist and Nakia as more of a rebel within the Dora Milaje. That’s where their personal conflict comes from, even though they are essentially on the same side in the name of their king. The new clips also demonstrate the fighting style of the Dora Milaje while teasing their battle with T’Challa’s rival, Erik “Killmonger” Stevens (Michael B. Jordan).

Within the Marvel Universe, the Dora Milaje made their comic book debut twenty years ago during the first issue of Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira’s run on Black Panther. They are the all-female special forces of Wakanda that are made up of some of the various tribes that live within the nation. In the comics, they were also T’Challa’s bodyguards and his ceremonial wives-in-training. Within the context of the film, it’s been revealed that Nakia was once T’Challa’s lover, but it’s unclear how that relationship will play out onscreen.
