For the better part of the last decade, Charlie Brooker‘s anthology series, Black Mirror, has offered fans a glimpse into the darker possibilities of technology and society. Black Mirror‘s thought-provoking fourth season premiered just a few months ago, but Netflix is getting ready to send viewers a new batch of episodes. Via the official Black Mirror Twitter account, Netflix announced the renewal in a video that evokes the second season episode, “Be Right Back.”

However, Entertainment Weekly notes that new episodes aren’t currently in production, which makes a 2018 return somewhat unlikely. We also have yet to find out how many episodes Black Mirror‘s fifth season will comprise, as the series has been somewhat inconsistent in regard to season length thus far. (Given that seasons three and four consisted of six episodes each, that might be a safe bet for this next go.)
Earlier this year, director Toby Haynes expressed his desire to create a spinoff based upon âUSS Callister,â the Star Trek-inspired episode from the fourth season. It’s still high on our wish list as well. Even if it never comes to pass, Black Mirror‘s new episodes will likely attract more established performers to take part in the twisted tales from Brooker’s imagination. That is definitely going to be something worth waiting to see.
