BILLY CORGAN Is IMPACT WRESTLING’S New (REAL) President

Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins is a longtime wrestling fan. He first showed that love in the late ’90s with an appearance on the now-defunct ECW, but then in April of 2015, he decided to jump feet-first into RUNNING a major wrestling company when he bought a minority stake in Impact Ventures, which owns Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) Wrestling. Becoming their Senior Producer of Creative and Talent Development, he helped run the company with then president Dixie Carter. As of August 12, Corgan was given the keys to the kingdom.

As reported by Consequences of Sound, Corgan was officially named the President of Impact Ventures. He will be “leading day-to-day operations for Impact and its affiliated brands.” In general terms, that means he is in charge of TNA and its TV show, Impact Wrestling. Whatever fans see on the screen, from matches to promos, to storylines, has to go through Corgan first. He is essentially the Vince McMahon of Impact. Former president Dixie Carter will transition into the role of Chairman and CSO of Impact, dealing with the company’s long-term plans.

Corgan’s promotion leads to some interesting questions as to his on-air role with Impact. Throughout his tenure on screen, he’s played more of a bad guy role, with Dixie Carter as a foil to keep him in check. Now that he’s the person in charge, will that power corrupt him absolutely? Well, since it’s happened TO EVERY AUTHORITY FIGURE IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING (give or take), I am going to say yes.

Impact Wrestling airs Thursday Nights on PopTV.

So what do you think? How many Siamese Dreams do you think Corgan has for Impact Wrestling? Zero? Will he force one of his new employees to call his finisher the “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
