BEAUTY AND THE BEAST to Feature New Song Performed by Celine Dion

You didn’t think we’d let you start this wintry weekend without a little warmhearted movie news, did you? No, sir, that’s just not how we roll here at Movie Morsels. Instead, we’ve got the the latest word on the soundtrack for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, a trailer for Anne Hathaway‘s new kaiju flick Colossal, a trailer for Felicity Jones and Nicholas Hoult‘s action thriller Collide, and plenty more for you peeps…

Beauty and the Beast

The Beast (Dan Stevens) and Belle (Emma Watson) in the castle library in Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, a live-action adaptation of the studio's animated classic which is a celebration of one of the most beloved stories ever told.

In addition to winning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and the adoration of untold millions, Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast had a title song (played during its end credits) with a duet by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson; which resulted in the film’s only single — a chart-topping Grammy winner. The success of the tune made Dion as big a singing star across the world as she was in her native Canada. Now we hear Dion’s returning the favor to Disney, by recording a new song for the film’s live-action adaptation. “How Does A Moment Last Forever” is written by the original film’s composer Alan Menken, one of three new songs he’s penned with lyricist Tim Rice. The tune, which will feature in the film’s closing credits, is described as “an emotional ballad about holding onto life’s precious moments.” Will lightning strike twice for Dion and Menken? We’ll find out when the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack arrives on March 10th, one week before the film hits theaters.

Genocidal Organ

Genocidal Organ

Meanwhile, in a far darker corner of the pop culture universe… Oldboy director Chan-wook Park’s The Handmaiden was one of the most acclaimed thrillers of last year, and indeed of the filmmaker’s entire career. So what’s he doing for an encore? An even more intense thriller of course! Park is adapting Project Itoh’s novel Genocidal Organ. Published in English by Viz Media, the book “follows American intelligence agent Clavis Shepard as he tracks supposed mastermind terrorist John Paul in a future world wrought with chaos and violence.” The title is such a hot property that an anime version is also in the works.

Colossal

Psst! Wanna watch Anne Hathaway play an alcoholic who can mentally control a menacing kaiju? Sure you do. Hell, who hasn’t been asking for Rachel Getting Married meets Godzilla?! So sit back, relax, and check out the trailer for Colossal. Co-starring Jason Sudeikis and Beauty and the Beast‘s Beast himself Dan Stevens, the film’s directed by Timecrimes helmer Nacho Vigalondo, and won mucho praise on the festival circuit last year, including some from our own Scott Weinberg

Nasty Women

How to Be Single

And speaking of Anne Hathaway… It turns out the title of the gender-swapped remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is — Nasty Women! Yes, it’s not only an appropriate name for a movie about female con artists, but it makes fun of the new U.S. President’s rather misogynistic nickname for Hillary Clinton during the presidential debates. Hathaway and Rebel Wilson (whom we last in How to Be Single, pictured above) are in talks to take over the roles made famous by Steve Martin and Michael Caine in the 1988 original. Regardless of how the film turns out, I can’t help but smile at the thought that its title will adorn theater marquees across the country.

Collide

Two of our favorite young British stars, Felicity Jones and Nicholas Hoult, are teaming up — or, dare we say, colliding — in a new chase picture from British director Eran Creevy. Collide co-stars not one but two Knights of the Realm in Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins (just to make it even more Britishy). Here’s the latest trailer for the February 24th release, which poses the question, “How far would you go for the one you love?”

Raw

Finally today.. We’ve got a whopping three new clips for you from the teen cannibal thriller Raw. Check ’em out below. My favorite’s the third and final clip, in which the film goes full Carrie on a group of veterinary students. Apparently such scenes caused a handful of weak-stomached critics to pass out when they saw the movie at the Toronto Film Festival. Ha. Amateurs.
