BATMAN: RETURN TO ARKHAM Has Been Pushed Back Indefinitely

Last month, gamers got the very welcome news that Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City would both be getting a Next Gen upgrade as part of the Batman: Return to Arkham two-pack. Originally, that duo remaster was set to come out next month… but there’s been a hitch in those plans.

Via Gematsu and IGN, word has come down that Warner Bros. Games has delayed Batman: Return to Gotham indefinitely, with no new release date currently in sight. WB Games’ Steve Grayson released the following statement on the company’s official forum: “After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience.”

It’s a bummer to be sure, but the last thing that anyone wants is a repeat of Batman: Arkham Knight‘s PC experience, which led WB Games to temporarily pull the game because of numerous bugs and glitches. Virtuous Games is using the Unreal Engine 4 to remaster Arkham Asylum and Arkham City’s character models, the lighting, the environments, the effects, and everything else that went into making the games so great in the first place. If it takes more time to get it right, then at least Virtuous and WB Games aren’t rushing a substandard product out the door.

Are you still excited about getting the remastered editions of the first two Batman: Arkham games? And which moments are you most looking forward to revisiting? Shine a Bat-signal in the sky and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
