What Do You Get When You Cross Batman, a Princess Dress, and Birthday Cake?

Batfans know that February 19 is Bruce Wayne’s birthday, and no celebration would be complete without cake and a… beautiful dress? Although you wouldn’t have pegged Batman as one to wear a ball gown, it works for him. Both in terms of fashion and flavor.

This flowing dress of a cake is covered in a sweet, black, (or very, very dark gray) icing with a few yellow and white details to accentuate his utility belt. It’s always helpful to use a toy with action grip to help hold up his own cape while you’re trying to pipe ruffles on the bottom of his dress. Thanks, Bats.

Batman Birthday Princess Cake recipe-02152016

Batman Birthday Princess Cake
You’ll need:
bundt pan
Batman action figure, washed
yellow icing
white icing

Cake ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Icing Ingredients:
2 cup powdered sugar
3 Tablespoons whole milk
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
black food gel dye

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep a bundt pan by greasing it with non-stick cooking spray or butter.

In a bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar. Then add the eggs one at a time.

Alternate the flour mixture with the buttermilk and vanilla until combined.

Spoon the batter into the prepped bundt pan, tapping slightly to release air bubbles.

Place the filled bundt pan on a baking sheet (in case of spillage) and bake for 1 hour or until a skewer test comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan, until the pan is cool to the touch, then turn the cake out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the icing by stirring together the powdered sugar, milk, butter, and a few drops of black food gel dye in a bowl. Once combined, pour generously over the top of the cooled bundt cake.

Wrap the Batman figure’s legs in plastic wrap and place into the center of the bundt.

Using a # 104 tip and yellow icing, pipe two rows of long ruffles along the base of the cake. At the intersections use white icing and a #18 star tip to pipe stars and add a yellow star sprinkle in the center. Use a #3 tip to add white details if desired.

Finally, with the #18 tip pipe yellow stars around Batman’s waist to cover the open areas.

When the icing is set the cake is ready to serve.
