BACK TO THE FUTURE Star Michael J. Fox Hated the DeLorean

If you’re a Back to the Future fan, there’s a good chance that you love the trilogy’s iconic DeLorean DMC-12. John DeLorean’s car company never made another model, but the DMC-12 has been immortalized on film.

Michael J. Fox is not among the fans of the DeLorean…because he had to actually drive it! Fox recently appeared alongside Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson for a Back to the Future 30th anniversary reunion at the London Film and Comic-Con. While there, Fox revealed why he’s come to hate the car that so many fans adore.

“I wish I had a video, a gag reel of how many times I was hit by that freakin’ door, the DeLorean door,” explained Fox. “Take after take, it would go, WHACK!”

“It was the worst thing to drive,” continued Fox. “It had two gears and I slammed the gears, and my hand would smash into the flux capacitor. My hand would be bleeding, my head would be bleeding… and I had to clean it off to get to the Family Ties set.”

Although Fox doesn’t have many fond memories of the DeLorean, he expressed his admiration for the fans who came out to the event.

“You guys are happily dressed as other people, other characters, crazy costumes and stuff – but you’re the most genuine, real people I’ve ever met,” said Fox. “I’ve met people with their heart on their sleeves, and they love what they are, they love being together and doing the things they enjoy. And if that’s a nerd, then that’s what Marty is.”

Universal Pictures is reissuing the Back to the Future Trilogy on Blu-ray and DVD this fall.

BTTF fans, would you put up with the DeLorean if it was as hard to handle as Fox recalls? Activate Mr. Fusion and let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section below!
