Here’s Your First Look at VIXEN on ARROW

Arrow is about to do something no show has ever done before—and it’s pretty freaking awesome.

The CW’s DC Comics drama is bringing The CW Seed’s animated web series Vixen to life in an upcoming episode … and the voice of the titular animated comic book hero is going to play her in real-life! Megalyn E.K., who voiced Mari McCabe a.k.a. Vixen for the entire first season of the digital series, will appear in episode 15 of Arrow this season, in all of her live-action glory. And we’ve got your first look at her in costume. Check out the epic photo above, and let us know what you think of the live-action version of Vixen in the comments section below.

For those who are unfamiliar with Vixen, the web series comes from the minds of Arrow/The Flash/Legends of Tomorrow uber-producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg and debuted on the digital platform CW Seed earlier this fall. It has already been renewed for a second season, and takes place within the Arrowverse—a.k.a. the shared universe of the three DC TV shows. (No, Supergirl does not take place within the same universe, despite having the same showrunners. Two different networks equals two different universes. Sigh.)

Vixen was based on the DC Comics character Mari McCabe, a costumed superhero crime-fighter with the power to mimic the abilities of any animal that has ever lived on Earth. Mari inherits her family’s Tantu Totem, gaining the powers of animals, using them to fight as Vixen to stop threats like those that claimed her family, after her parents were killed in Africa by local corruption.

The first season followed her origin story and concluded with her suiting up and fighting crime as the heroine Vixen, finally knowing her purpose in life, with the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and the Flash (Grant Gustin) showing up and promising to offer assistance should she ever ask. Since she’s about to show up on Arrow, it feels safe to assume that Oliver might actually need Vixen’s help. Maybe her animal powers are just the weapon he needs to exact his revenge on Damien Dahrk (Neil McDonough) for putting Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) into a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Or maybe a villain from Vixen’s past shows up in Star City, and only Mari knows how to defeat him/her.

Vixen

While the above photo of E.K. is the first official look at her live-action costume, Amell actually posted the first unofficial look at Vixen on Arrow last night during the midseason premiere, but it only showed their faces with their superhero makeup on.

“#Vixen is coming,” Amell tweeted with the above photo. “Please welcome @Megalyn to the show.”

We are totally digging Vixen’s dark look and how well it fits in on Arrow. If this guest appearance goes well, The CW boss Mark Pedowitz already remarked that E.K. could spin off into her own live-action series, or join the network’s upcoming Legends of Tomorrow spin-off. We’d be down with either of those plans, because the more Vixen we get, the better!
