ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 5 Will Spoof Donald Trump and MAKING A MURDERER

Update: 5/12/17: The Bluth family is officially going to take on Donald Trump as only they can, as series star Jason Bateman has officially signed on for another season of Arrested Development.

Though we have a long way to go before the show starts filming again, given all the other actors’ insanely busy schedules, having “good son” Michael Bluth attached is the first step to getting more money in that banana stand. (The banana stand is Netflix, we guess.)

More in our original story below.

During the fourth season of Arrested Development, the series explored a ludicrous plotline in which Lindsay Bluth (Portia de Rossi) decided to run for political office as a Republican after her anti-Mexican rhetoric and her father’s plans to “put up a wall” made her popular with the American public. Now that reality is catching up to satire with Donald Trump’s Presidential candidacy, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz isn’t about to pass up on the parallels with Lucille in the fifth season.

A new report from the TCA Press Tour indicates that Hurwitz is hoping to get Arrested Development season 5 out before the upcoming Presidential elections to take advantage of the unexpected timeliness of his Lindsay storyline. Hurwitz is also reported to have plans to parody Netflix’s Making a Murderer and HBO’s The Jinx with his storyline for Buster (Tony Hale), who was arrested for murder at the end of the fourth season.

Additionally, Hurwitz indicated that he had to change his plans to make George a transsexual woman when Jeffrey Tambor became the star of Amazon Prime’s Transparent. Hurwitz also noted that he had planned to make George “a mute woman.” That was one of Robert Durst’s disguises on The Jinx.

However, Hurwitz hasn’t been able to start writing the scripts for season 5 because he doesn’t know which cast members will return. Every major performer from the first three seasons appeared in the fourth season, but the shooting schedule limited the cast’s interaction with each other. Most of the principal cast remains in high demand, which complicates their availability to reprise their roles.
