ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT To Premiere Fifth Season On Netflix Next Year

Adam Carolla recently had Brian Grazer, executive producer and co-creator of Arrested Development, on his podcast. During their conversation Mr. Grazer made mention that production for the fifth season of the series would start in the early months of 2016. And though there’s no official release date for the new installment, he did say the new episodes would most likely be showing up on Netflix about four months after the start of production. Which means we can expect to see them as early as May of next year! The season will consist of 17 episodes —a slight increase from the 15 episodes that made up Arrested Development’s fourth season revival in 2013 — because, as Glazer told Carolla, “Netflix is determined to do more episodes so we’re going to do more episodes,” adding “It’s a lot of juggling of all these stars’ lives.” Glazer also told Carolla that he has spoken with Fox, as well as his fellow co-creator Mitch Hurwitz, and told them the news.

For those that didn’t know, Arrested Development ran for three season on Fox, from 2003-2006, before being cancelled. Ever since the show went off the air, fans hoped for the return of the Bluth Family in some fashion — a dream later made a reality in 2014 by Netflix. The show made stars of several cast members including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Portia De Rossi, and introduced the world to the awkward teenager archetype that is Michael Cera. A show that many critics felt was before its time, finally got a second chance to shine, and it seems even Netflix agrees it should continue. The only question left is what this could mean for their plans for a movie.
