Back in 2012, it was announced that Arnold Schwarznegger would step back into the role of Robert E. Howardâs Conan the Barbarian for the first time since 1984. But in the four years since The Legend of Conan was revealed, it hasnât yet materialized on the big screen.
During a recent appearance in the United Kingdom, Schwarznegger offered an update on the project. According to Schwarznegger, the script has been finished and there is now a âserious driveâ to get the film made and find a director. Schwarznegger also revealed that The Legend of Conan will now be called Conan the Conqueror, which was also the title of the abandoned third Conan movie from the late â80s.
Additionally, Schwarznegger related the basic premise of Conan the Conqueror, which takes place three decades after Conan became a king.
âIâm sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me,â said Schwarznegger. âSo that story will be told and that movie will be done.”
While Schwarznegger will turn 69 in July, he stressed that he is still up for the physical challenge of reprising one of his earliest roles. âI did all the physical stuff [of my last few movies] and it didnât wipe me out and I have plenty of energy and feel really terrific,â explained Schwarznegger. âSo I am absolutely convinced that I can do the Conan movie and do the horseback riding, the sword fights, and all the fighting.â
