Marvel fans at New York Comic Con got the first glimpse of Alex Rossâ upcoming cover for All-New, All-Different Avengers #4 that featured something never before seen in a Marvel comic: a romantic kiss between Captain America and Thor.
Of course, this kiss is between the Sam Wilson Captain America and the female Thor who was recently revealed to be Jane Foster, Thorâs longtime love interest who has proven herself worthy to wield Thorâs hammer, Mjolnir. Even before Secret Wars shuffled the deck going into the All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch, the former Falcon had just been named the new Captain America. As for Jane Foster, itâs a safe bet that Marvel will keep her as Thor for as long as her title continues to outsell the previous comic starring her ex.
Yesterday, Senior Marvel editor Ben Morse debuted the Captain America and Thor cover with this memorable caption: âEarthâs Mightiest Kiss.â
Prior to Jane Fosterâs ascension as Thor, itâs not clear how well Sam Wilson knew her. Jane Foster established herself as a doctor in the Marvel U and sheâs helped out the Avengers on a few occasions. But sheâs primarily been a member of Thorâs supporting cast.
The cover certainly implies that Jane and Sam will know each other much more intimately now that they are headlining All-New, All-Different Avengers alongside Iron Man, the Vision, and three young heroes: Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Spider-Man a.k.a. Miles Morales. Romantic entanglements between fellow Avengers is nothing new for the franchise. But if the new Thor and Captain America are actually going to have a romance then it could shake up the status quo even further.
All-New, All-Different Avengers #4 will be released in January 2016.
