Exclusive: Arcade Fire’s Will Butler Goes Behind The Scenes of his New Music Video

Two truths and a lie: Arcade Fire’s Will Butler is also a solo artist. Will Butler released a very good album in 2015 with very catchy singles. Will Butler has committed to memory at least the first few lines of William Butler Yeates’ poem “In Memory of Eva Gore-Booth and Con Markiewicz.” Alright, you caught me; it was a trick question and you get to explore all of these things in Nerdist’s exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of Butler’s brand new video for “What I Want”, from his album, Policy.

In the music video below we see Butler and Jennifer Morrison entering a child-owned-and-operated CBGB, where the bartender is pouring shots of milk and one of the punks is playing air guitar on a mannequin. Like, very freaky sh-t going on here, but the most terrifying thing is that Butler and Morrison have ray guns that turn the kids into yuppies. Very spooky (though perhaps less bizarre than Perry Farrell’s cameo). The track itself is similarly self aware and tongue-in-cheek, despite the angular, driving guitar that propels the song for its duration.

For the behind-the-scenes footage, we asked Will about his his experience working with very young actors, and if he was a punk kid growing up. If his charming recitation of a Yeates poem at the end of the video isn’t evidence that he was a rather bookish indoor kid, I am not sure what is. Watch the video in full above.

Be sure to check out Will’s album here.
