Aphex Twin’s Alternate ‘Avril 14th’ Mix is Serene

Aphex Twin has graced us with a beautiful new arrangement, simply titled “avril altdelay”. Originally, this was a melancholic 1-minute 55-second long track titled “Avril 14th” from the 2001 album Drukqs. Transformed, this 3-minute 16-second long mix, one of the musician’s rare serene tracks, travels through the original sounds of piano, keyboards, and electronic synthesizers but in an extremely dazed manner.

“avril altdelay” is an ambient track that should be included in film scores and anime soundtracks. (We’re looking at you, Ghost In Shell!) The original “Avril 14th” was featured in the soundtrack for Sofia Coppola’s 2006 glamorous period piece, Marie Antoinette, and was more recently sampled in Kanye West’s “Blame Game” off of West’s 2010 album My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy.

The buzz surrounding sneaky releases such as “avril altdelay” comes from James’ nearly 13-year hiatus status before releasing a steady stream of music in 2014 and sudden outbursts on social media. He’s a prankster at heart, and if all of the previous “anonymous” tracks are in fact his creative handy work, the online future of Richard. D. James appears bright.

Be sure to stay posted for more unreleased Aphex Twin tracks!
