Box offices around the world are currently on fire thanks to Avengers: Infinity War, but the Marvel machine never sleeps, which is why the studio has already turning its eyes to the franchise next film: this summer’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. And in the newest trailer for the movie, things are getting really big, while their newest enemy is getting really small.
In this film, which is a prequel of sorts to the Avengers’ showdown with Thanos, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is learning to work with Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne, the Wasp, as they try to track down Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost. She has stolen the even more valuable Quantum Plane suit from Hank Pym, who has clearly not given up on finding his wife. But for a guy known as “the Ant-Man” he sure does spend a lot of this trailer being the size of a house.
There’s a lot to digest here, including what we don’t seeâlike Michelle Pfeiffer as Hope’s long lost mother, the original Waspâbut the shot of a giant superhero slowing down a truck on a San Francisco street while people in a nearby coffee shop don’t even care enough to turn their heads is one of the most honest moments in MCU history. At this point, what haven’t these people of Earth seen?
As for how this movie will tie in to Infinity War or Avengers 4Â is still unclear, but Marvel did have some fun with that while teasing this trailer yesterday.
It’s not exactly an insult to say this movie won’t pull in the same box office as Infinity War, but it will be nice to get a chance to enjoy the MCU again without worrying half of the characters will disappear at the end. Though mastering the quantum plane sure does feel like a great tool to fight Thanos.
Ant-Man and the Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed, flies in to theaters this summer on July 6th.
