Another Star Wars Christmas

Christmas? Then, this:

Yep, it’s time once again to see how far you can make it through the Star Wars Holiday Special. R2-D2 as R2-D2! Introducing Chewbacca’s family! Bea Arthur! Art Carney! Diahann Carroll! Jefferson Starship! And Harvey Freakin’ Korman! I never make it very far into it. And I own an original (but very worn) vinyl copy of the infamous Star Wars Christmas Album (with the very young John Bongiovi, later to be THE Jon Bon Jovi, singing on “R2-D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas”). At least, I think I still have it in my vinyl collection. I haven’t looked lately.

Of course, Rifftrax has done a fine job riffing on this one, as demonstrated by this excerpt featuring Bea Arthur:

Or you can watch AlNicklesFilms’ LEGO Star Wars Christmas Special 2012, a holiday edition of “At Home with the Skywalkers,” in which Luke makes like Ralphie in A Christmas Story and asks Santa for a double-bladed light saber:

I think they missed a bet here by leaving out some Jean Shepherd-style narration. Meanwhile, I didn’t see Blobstudios, which has been doing LEGO Star Wars Christmas Specials for a few years, having one this year. This was last year’s:

And with that… Merry Christmas.

To my knowledge this has never been shown in the UK. We are so lucky, pass the mind bleach.

  2. RG says:

The best part about the Rifftrax edition is that the 70’s commercials are intact.

“The Bible… the story of Moses, and Abraham…”
    “Of Nimrod, and Dorcas!”

I spent 3 days downloading it years ago(thanks dialup) and made myself sit thru the whole thing. Never again, except maybe to torture my kids.

I still will never forgive my brother for subjecting me to the Star Wars Holiday Special at one of his Xmas parties years ago. Seriously, even Rifftrax can’t save that abomination. And this is coming from someone who survived Twilight with the help of Rifftrax.
