Another “Dark Knight Rises” Villain: Matthew Modine

Matthew Modine is apparently the third villain for The Dark Knight Rises, joining Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. According to Roger Friedman at Showbiz411.com, Modine will play “Nixon,” which seems to be some kind of political bad guy — someone in America next summer will Google “origins of Nixon name in Batman movie,” no question — and is apparently shooting his scenes in London right about now (the movie has apparently shot some scenes in India too).

Modine’s going to have an interesting 2012 — he’ll be in one of the biggest films ever, and then, via IMDB, he’ll be in Family Weekend with Kristin Chenoweth and Joey King. To quote Archer, “Yuuuup.” It is worth noting that Christian Bale’s other expected 2012 release, to go along with being Batman, is The 13 Women of Nanjing.

As Zach Galifianakis told Will Ferrell on their recent “Between Two Ferns,” “One for you, one for them.”

Does the nerd world think Modine is a good addition here?

First off, Trump is an idiot. In a revolution who’s uslluay the person to get clipped? The rich and the prosperous that’s who. Guys like Trump would be laid out on the streets in a hurry because they have no survival instinct. A revolution would render everything he has (mainly his money) useless.Secondly, I’m not expecting anything huge from Obama even though I voted for him(he is a politician after all). He was simply the lesser of two evils. I personally think the U.S. is doomed and primed for a fall anyway. The candidates kept talking about China taking jobs but completely ignored the fact that China is also taking power. They’re on the come up and they’ll make their presence felt in these next 4 years when they become the most powerful country in the world and the U.S. dollar collapses on itself (because of the federal reserve system).

Excellent post. I was checking constantly this blog and I’m impressed!
Very useful info specifically the last part 🙂 I care for such information much.

I was seeking this particular info for a very long time. Thank you and best of luck.

well for those who dont know Roland Daggett is a character that will appear in The Dark Knight Rises. Matthew Modine has a brownish-reddish tint to his hair as well as blueish eyes. I have a feeling he will be playing Daggett , head of Daggett Industries, chief compettitor of Wayne Enterprises. Nixon is a cover-up name 2 throw people off. We all know Daggett has both criminal and political motivations. anywayz cant wait to see the film.

  4. Matthew Modine is a fantastic actor. Can’t wait to see what he brings to this.

I could definitely see Modine as a corrupt politician. I’ll never forget his incredible episode on Law&Order SVU. I agree with PapaFrita that the previous films had tons of villainous characters, Nolan likes to show conflict through a wider scope. It is after all still Gotham City; if it were safe, there wouldn’t be a need for heroes.

  6. PapaFrita says:

Just because there are many named villains doesn’t mean they will be important. TDK had Scarecrow, Lau, Maroni, Chechen, Gambol, but they played minor parts. I suspect the same deal will happen here. Bane was a schemer, after all, using other villains to his advantage. It will still be Bane’s movie.

At first I was like, what?
but now i’m like oh, http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/28147467/ns/today-entertainment/t/oscar-smackdown-nixon-vs-batman/

but Really we need to remember the old saying “To many villains in the kitchen spoils the broth”

I think going with more than one villan is going to hurt the new Batman movie. It will go the way of the old Batman movies, focusing the story on more than one badguy.

The only way they could pull it off is if they went the Ironman 2 route making Catwoman more of a sidkick/love intrest and Nixon as a behind the scenes, pulling Bane’s strings type, like Hammer was for Whiplash.

I see a wrestling scene with “Lunatic Fringe” playing in the background in our future.

He once stared down animal Mother…

  11. Sawyer says:

Is this possibly a setup for Batman fighting The Silence?

  12. K. Rifkin says:

Hell yeah! He took a long leave of absence, but that dude is a great actor. Remember Birdy and Vision Quest. Yes. I’m all for it. He’s got chops.

  13. Brand G says:

I think instead of Mr. Freeze, Bat Man will be fighting “Frost/Nixon” with the power of coolness.

  14. I think Modine is kind of under rated as of late. Plus he really chews the scenery, and I think thats what DKR seems like it could use. Also, what do we have to do to get Donald Glover in this movie?

  15. JackBrown says:

He’s a great actor, I can’t see him possibly being a bad addition.
