Comic-Con Extended MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E Trailer

Pairing international espionage with a 1960s flare with an east-versus-west buddy comedy isn’t necessarily a perfect match, but from the looks of this special five-minute trailer of Warner Bros’ The Man from U.N.C.L.E., it looks like it fits like a very stylish glove. The extended look at the film was shown in front of the 7,000 onlookers in Hall H Saturday morning.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. stars Henry Cavill as American agent Napoleon Solo and Armie Hammer as his soviet counterpart Illya Kuryakin, roles made famous by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, respectively, in the spy series which ran from 1964-1968. During that time, the show went from black-and-white to color and upped the quirkiness and gadgetry as they went along to keep pace with the James Bond films. Guy Ritchie directed the big budget action adaptation, which looks to be keeping a mixture of the serious and silly.

From the trailer, we see a lot more of the enemies-turned-begrudging-partners trying to one-up each other with their tools and skills stuff, as they eventually go to work for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, known colloquially as U.N.C.L.E (of course). Alicia Vikander’s character, Gaby Teller, gets to shine a lot as well during the footage, and she seems to be able to handle herself quite well, even facing the chauvinism of tough guys in the 1960s. (Seriously, “I’m gonna put you over my knee”????) We still don’t know too much about Elizabeth Debicki’s glamorous character, but she sure looks like trouble to me.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. will be released on August 14th, a mere month away.
