Annualized Franchises: Good or Bad?

In celebration of Halloween, it’s time that we turn our attention to one of the scariest things in the video game industry: annualized franchises. Out of the plethora of intellectual properties that have reached household name status, none come with as much uncertainty as the one’s that release yearly. Consumers have become extremely apprehensive about dropping their hard-earned money on these types of games, and recent occurrences like the launch day problems of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, don’t do anything to help the idea of franchises hitting every 365 days.

This week on Nerdist Play, we’ll take a second to observe the good and bad that comes with annualized franchises, and break down a couple of IPs’ approach to releasing every year.
