We’re less than a month away from the release of director Alex Garland‘s adaptation of Annihilation, and the more we learn about “The Shimmer” the more mysterious it gets. So it is only fitting Paramount is now asking us to unlock the film’s latest clip by decoding an ominous message at a new viral site that wants to know if you’re willing to follow a path of desolation.
When you visit forthosethatfollow.com you’re greeted by the beautiful, mysterious, and terrifying wall of color that surrounds the growing phenomenon where mutation is occurring at unimaginable speedsâa place where almost everyone who has entered has died. You can play around with the gorgeous colors of the Shimmer on the site with your cursor, but when you enter the message from the tweet below it takes you to a new 30-second video, featuring a clip of Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character explaining to Natalie Portman how the strange Shimmer is expanding, threatening all life on Earth.

“The boundary’s getting bigger; it’s expanding. In a few months the area will have grown to where we are. Then we’re talking cities, states, and so on.”
After the clip finishes you can also then create your own coded message and tweet it out. Our suggestion, considering the mystery of the movie, is to make yours as cryptic as possible.
For those that plan to follow Annihilation to theaters, “The Shimmer” arrives on February 23rd.
