Anna Kendrick and James Corden Performed an Entire Relationship in Song

Loving someone isn’t easy. Committing yourself to someone else isn’t easy. No, love is complicated and messy… unless you have a Broadway musical past and can distill an entire relationship down to four minutes with a medley of appropriate songs and call it a day.

Which is just what Anna Kendrick and The Late Late Show‘s James Corden did when they performed a mini-musical titled “Soundtrack to a Love Story,” which we first saw at EW. The two of them told the entire sordid tale of a pair of lovers, full of all the ups-and-downs of love, complete with costume and set changes, and done with apropos pop songs from across the decades.

Beginning with Kendrick getting ready for their first date by singing “I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin, all the way through the big finale duet of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” the two sang numbers that included hits from Boys II Men, Adele, Bruno Mars, and others.

At this point, Corden’s show has basically just become a late night musical, but who can blame him? This was fun and silly and didn’t take itself seriously—like all of his musical segments. Plus, taking advantage of your guest’s charisma and talents is never a bad idea.

This isn’t the first time Kendrick has helped out her fellow Into The Woods co-star with a segment, either; previously, she joined him in doing every sports movie ever, because she’s the best. Maybe next they can take on horror films? Or prison movies? Both?

What is your favorite musical segment Corden has done on his show? Tell us in the comments below.
