Amazon Developing TRUE SKIN Series About Human Immortality

Imagine if you could cheat death by constantly upgraded your body with cybernetic parts and backing up your memory in the cloud. That was the premise of Stephan Zlotescu’s short film True Skin, which was eagerly swooped up by Warner Bros. as a potential feature a shortly after its 2012 release. But now that Warner Bros. has let the rights to the titel lapse, Amazon has grander ambitions for True Skin.

Amazon Studios has officially placed True Skin in development as an original series, with Zlotescu attached to direct the pilot and produce the show with Scott Glassgold and his production company Ground Control. Although Zlotescu wrote and directed the original True Skin short, Amazon is currently looking for a writer to adapt the story and serve as the showrunner.

The True Skin short is still online, and it could even serve as the prologue for the series, given the ambiguous nature of its ending. The short followed an unnamed man who stole an experimental chip that allowed him to become fully “unreal.” In under five minutes, True Skin set up a world where even animals have been cybernetically enhanced and human flesh was viewed with contempt. To be “unreal” was the previously unattainable goal of humanity’s quest for immortality.

Zlotescu starred in the original True Skin short and provided the visual effects. He is also slated to work on the VFX for the True Skin series with his partner Vlad Caprini at Opticflavor. Amazon has not yet given True Skin a pilot order.
